Plant Protein Extraction

Plant protein extraction is a laboratory method for isolating soluble proteins from plant tissues for biochemical, nutritional, and immunological analysis. The process typically disrupts tissue mechanically, mixes it with a buffered solution containing salts or stabilizing agents, and separates insoluble material by centrifugation; proteins may then be concentrated by precipitation or purified using chromatography. In immunology and infection research, extracted proteins can serve as antigens, immunogens, or assay targets for studying antibody recognition and host responses to plant-associated pathogens. Reliable extraction preserves protein abundance and structure, supporting reproducible diagnostic, vaccine, and host-pathogen investigations.
