Data Displays

Data displays are visual representations that organize information so people can identify patterns, compare values, and interpret quantitative relationships more efficiently than from raw lists alone. They work by encoding measurements or categories with positions, lengths, colors, symbols, or other graphical features, while tables arrange values in rows and columns. In mathematics, bar graphs, line graphs, pictographs, scatterplots, and coordinate graphs support tasks such as summarizing data, examining change, identifying trends, and comparing distributions. Selecting an appropriate display and using accurate labels, scales, and units helps prevent misleading interpretations and strengthens reasoning in statistics, probability, science, and everyday decision-making.
