Estimation Bounds

Estimation bounds are mathematical limits that place a quantity within a specified range when its exact value is unknown, difficult to calculate, or unnecessary to determine. They are derived by applying inequalities, approximation methods, or assumptions about the variables involved, producing upper bounds, lower bounds, or intervals that contain the target value under stated conditions. In mathematics, bounds help quantify error, assess the quality of approximations, and establish whether a result is feasible. They support numerical analysis, probability, optimization, and statistical inference by providing rigorous guarantees for calculations and decisions based on incomplete or uncertain information.

What are Estimates?

2023

It isn't easy to measure a parameter such as the mean height or the mean weight of a population. So, we draw samples from the population and calculate the mean height or mean weight of the individuals in the sample. This sample data acts as a representative measure of the population parameter. These sample statistics are known as estimates. The estimate for the mean of a sample is denoted by ͞x, whereas the mean of the population is designated as μ. Further, parameters such as the mean,...

Using SecM Arrest Sequence as a Tool to Isolate Ribosome Bound Polypeptides

We describe here a technique that is now routinely used to isolate stably bound ribosome nascent chain complexes (RNCs). This technique takes advantage of the discovery that a 17 amino acid long SecM "arrest sequence" can halt translation elongation in a prokaryotic (E. coli) system, when inserted into (or fused to the C-terminus) of virtually any protein.

We report a solution-based method to synthesize substrate-bound Au nanowires. By tuning the molecular ligands used during the synthesis, the Au nanowires can be grown from various substrates with different surface properties. Au nanowire-based nanostructures can also be synthesized by adjusting the reaction parameters.
