Controlled Ovarian Stimulation

Controlled ovarian stimulation is a medical treatment that uses hormonal medication to promote the development of multiple ovarian follicles, supporting fertility procedures that require one or more mature eggs. Injectable gonadotropins, including follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone activity, stimulate follicular growth, while ultrasound and hormone monitoring guide dose adjustments; GnRH agonists or antagonists may prevent a premature luteinizing hormone surge, followed by a trigger for final oocyte maturation. The approach is used in in vitro fertilization, oocyte cryopreservation, and some assisted insemination protocols, helping clinicians coordinate egg collection or ovulation while managing treatment response and potential complications such as ovarian hyperstimulation.

Hormonal Control of the Ovarian Cycle

2024

The ovarian cycle is meticulously regulated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. This cycle orchestrates the release of a mature oocyte, essential for reproduction. Before puberty, the hypothalamus releases GnRH in a low frequency, low amplitude pulsatile manner. This along with the immature hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activity, results in low estrogen levels and the absence of a fully functional ovarian cycle. At puberty, GnRH secretion increases in both frequency and...

Adaptive deep brain stimulation (aDBS) is effective for Parkinson’s disease, improving symptoms and reducing power consumption compared to conventional deep brain stimulation (cDBS). In aDBS we track a local field potential biomarker (beta oscillatory amplitude) in real time and use this to control the timing of stimulation.

The study of amphibian biology provides valuable information on the reproductive, physiological, embryological and developmental processes that drive organisms of many taxonomic groups. Here, we present a comprehensive guide on different methodologies that can be used to study ovarian control and monitoring in amphibians.

An Orthotopic Model of Serous Ovarian Cancer in Immunocompetent Mice for in vivo Tumor Imaging and Monitoring of Tumor Immune Responses

To study in vivo tumor growth and tumor microenvironment, we used a syngeneic and orthotopic mouse model of ovarian cancer in immunocompetent animals. We transduced a mouse tumor cell line (MOV1) with Katushka fluorescent protein (MOV1KAT) and here we show its orthotopic implantation in ovary and in vivo imaging.
