Varicocele Scrotal Pain

Varicocele scrotal pain is discomfort associated with a varicocele, an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum that can affect daily activities and reproductive health. It develops when faulty venous valves impair blood return, allowing blood to pool around the testicle; discomfort may present as a dull ache or heaviness that worsens with prolonged standing or exertion and improves when lying down. Clinical evaluation typically includes a physical examination and, when needed, Doppler ultrasound to assess venous blood flow and exclude other causes. Management ranges from observation and supportive measures to varicocelectomy or embolization when pain persists or fertility is affected.

This protocol outlines the use of transcutaneous neuromuscular electrical stimulation for treating varicocele-induced scrotal pain. It compares visual analog scale (VAS) scores and imaging changes before and after treatment to assess effectiveness. Results indicate that patients experienced improved scrotal pain symptoms following the treatment.

Combination of High Ligation and Intraoperative Embolization Using Polidocanol for Treatment of Varicoceles

To reduce the postoperative recurrence rate of varicocelectomy, we combined high ligation of varicocele with intraoperative embolization. We injected polidocanol from the spermatic vein during surgery to embolize the branches of the spermatic vein and collateral veins. This is an alternative surgical method for the treatment of varicocele.

Diffuse noxious inhibitory control, temporal summation and wound hyperalgesia testing are demonstrated in the obstetric patient. These tests evaluate inhibitory and excitatory mechanisms of pain processing and are here utilized to evaluate endogenous analgesia at different time-points during pregnancy and the peripartum period to help reveal individual s risk for persistent pain.
