Una solución que contiene todos los componentes del análisis, excepto el analito, se conoce como solución en blanco.
En condiciones idénticas, la solución en blanco se mide con el mismo instrumento que la solución estándar y la muestra de prueba. Esta determinación en blanco revela cualquier error sistemático y errores causados por las impurezas en los reactivos y solventes.
El valor del blanco se resta de todos los valores de medición posteriores, como los de las soluciones estándar o la muestra de prueba, para eliminar el error. The main purpose of a blank solution is to control for background interference and contamination. Reagents, solvents, or lab equipment can sometimes create a detectable signal on their own. By measuring the blank first, scientists can identify that background signal and subtract it from the sample result.
