Sealing Enhancer

A sealing enhancer is a reagent or procedural aid used in electrophysiology to improve the electrical seal between a recording electrode and a cell membrane. By promoting closer membrane contact with the electrode surface, it increases seal resistance, limits ionic leakage, and reduces background electrical noise during patch-clamp recording. This improvement supports more stable measurements of membrane potential, ion-channel activity, and whole-cell currents, particularly when forming a high-resistance gigaseal is difficult. Sealing enhancers can therefore improve recording reliability, extend experiment duration, and increase the quality of data used to characterize cellular excitability and membrane transport.

2019

Key procedures to optimize the sealing process and achieve real-time monitoring of the metal-to-glass seal (MTGS) structure are described in detail. The embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor is designed to achieve online monitoring of temperature and high-level residual stress in the MTGS with simultaneous environmental pressure monitoring.

2026

A novel sealing protocol to produce water-tight silicone-based seals for membranes of Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) chip devices. Intended for labs setting-up chip models and small-scale chip platform development. We demonstrate the protocol using plastic and native tissue membranes. This procedure only requires PDMS, toluene, mold, membrane, and a vacuum chamber.

Self-Evaluation: Self-Enhancement and Self-Verification

2020

Social psychologists have documented that feeling good about ourselves and maintaining positive self-esteem is a powerful motivator of human behavior (Tavris & Aronson, 2008). In the United States, members of the predominant culture typically think very highly of themselves and view themselves as good people who are above average on many desirable traits (Ehrlinger, Gilovich, & Ross, 2005). Often, our behavior, attitudes, and beliefs are affected when we experience a threat to our...

Convection-Enhanced Delivery of Antibodies into a Mouse Brain

2025

This video demonstrates a convection-enhanced delivery (CED) technique for antibody delivery into the mouse brain. The skull of an anesthetized mouse is exposed, and a burr hole is created at the target area for antibody delivery. A step catheter containing antibodies is inserted at the target site, and via an infusion pump, a pressure gradient is created to deliver antibodies at a controlled rate.
