Avian Parental Care

Avian parental care is the set of behaviors birds use to protect, nourish, and support offspring, making it a key factor in chick survival and reproductive success. Parents may build and defend nests, incubate eggs by maintaining suitable temperature, brood hatchlings, and deliver food, often coordinating these tasks through behavioral and physiological adaptations. The form and intensity of care vary among species and can involve one or both parents, reflecting trade-offs between current offspring investment and future reproduction. Studying avian parental care helps biologists understand breeding systems, mating behavior, life-history evolution, and how environmental change affects reproductive outcomes.

Many animals exhibit parental care behavior, including feeding, grooming, and protecting young offspring. Parental care is universal in mammals and birds, which often have young that are born relatively helpless. Several species of insects and fish, as well as some amphibians, also care for their young. Birds Parental care can occur even before hatching in birds, when parents sit on their eggs to incubate them. After hatching, the parents provide food for their offspring, and may continue to...

The bacteria then spread to multiple organs, causing systemic infection.Add an equal volume of the bacterial suspension to each well of a multi-well plate containing increasing...

Parent-child interactions lay the foundation for how we understand relationships throughout life. These interactions are not uniform across families; instead, they are shaped by a range of environmental, emotional, and behavioral factors unique to each caregiver-child dynamic. Social psychologists study these early relationships to understand how patterns formed in infancy influence social functioning and interpersonal behavior in adulthood.Attachment Theory and Early Relational ModelsJohn...
