Mcerulean Mcitrine

mCerulean and mCitrine are cyan and yellow fluorescent protein variants commonly paired to monitor molecular interactions and signaling in living cells. In a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) assay, excitation of mCerulean can transfer energy nonradiatively to nearby mCitrine when the proteins are within an appropriate distance and orientation, producing a measurable change in fluorescence. Linking the pair to proteins, peptides, or biosensor domains allows researchers to detect conformational changes, protein binding, and intracellular activity through changes in donor and acceptor emission. This genetically encoded approach supports real-time, spatially resolved studies of cell biology and dynamic molecular processes.
