Plasma Sources

Plasma sources are devices or systems that generate and sustain plasma, an energized state of matter containing electrons, ions, and reactive neutral species. They apply electrical, radio-frequency, microwave, or other energy to a gas, causing ionization and excitation through electron collisions; operating pressure, power, and gas composition control the resulting plasma chemistry. In chemistry, plasma sources produce reactive species for chemical synthesis, thin-film deposition, surface modification, etching, and analytical spectroscopy. Their ability to drive reactions without heating the entire system supports selective processing, materials functionalization, and the study of nonequilibrium reaction pathways.

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Suprita Jharimune, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Working with extreme temperatures, both high and low, is an integral part of many laboratory operations. For many, mentioning a laboratory instantly evokes the mental picture of a Bunsen burner. Bunsen burners and hot plates are used extensively in small and large operations in research laboratories and industries, thus making it necessary for all users to be aware of their safe handling...
