Standard Reference Materials

Standard Reference Materials are well-characterized materials with certified values for selected chemical or physical properties, providing reliable benchmarks for measurement quality. In chemistry, laboratories analyze an SRM alongside test samples and compare the measured result with its certified value, while documented homogeneity and stability support consistent interpretation across instruments, analysts, and time. These materials help calibrate instruments, validate analytical methods, estimate measurement uncertainty, and monitor quality control in applications such as elemental analysis, environmental testing, pharmaceuticals, and materials characterization. Their use strengthens traceability and comparability, enabling researchers and laboratories to assess whether results are accurate, reproducible, and fit for purpose.

Citations play a key role in academic writing by documenting the evidence that supports scholarly claims. Beyond giving credit to original authors, they show engagement with existing research and strengthen the credibility of an argument. Effective citation practices are central to research literacy because they reflect a writer’s ability to locate, evaluate, and integrate reliable sources into their work. Digital Tools for Citation Management Advances in digital technology have simplified the...

2017

Optimized sampling protocols and the development of new wipe materials can be facilitated by standardized measurements of collection efficiency from wipe-sampling. Our approach for sampling trace explosives uses an automated device to control speed, force, and distance during wipe-sampling followed by extraction of collected explosives.

The goal of this video is to demonstrate how to perform automated DNA extraction from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) reference standard cell lines and digital droplet PCR (ddPCR) analysis to detect rare mutations in a clinical setting. Detecting mutations in FFPE samples demonstrates the clinical utility of ddPCR in FFPE samples.

Symbolic Understanding II: Displaced Reference

2026

Displaced reference is an important milestone in symbolic understanding that begins to emerge around 12 months of age. It is the ability to use words to refer to objects, people, or events that are not currently visible. This ability allows infants and toddlers to learn through communication even when objects or events are not directly present.Early DevelopmentBy approximately 12 to 13 months, infants may respond to the name of an absent familiar object by looking or pointing toward the place...
