Bartholin Glands

Bartholin glands are paired mucus-secreting glands located near the vaginal opening that contribute to vulvar lubrication and are important in clinical evaluation of vulvar swelling and pain. Each gland releases fluid through a narrow duct, and obstruction of this passage can produce a Bartholin cyst; bacterial infection may turn the cyst into a painful abscess. Clinical assessment considers symptoms, lesion size, recurrence, and patient age to guide management, which may include observation, drainage with a Word catheter, or marsupialization. Persistent or atypical masses require further investigation to exclude less common but serious causes, including malignancy.

Exocrine Glands: Unicellular and Multicellular Glands

2025

Exocrine glands are classified as unicellular and multicellular. The unicellular glands are scattered single cells, such as goblet cells, found in the mucous membranes of the small and large intestines. On the other hand, multicellular exocrine glands develop as secretory sheets, like the internal lining of the abdomen or chest. Such secretory sheets release their secretions directly into the lumen of these organs. In addition, some multicellular glands have deep-seated secretory units to...
