Ng Tube Care

Nasogastric (NG) tube care is the clinical practice of maintaining a tube passed through the nose into the stomach for enteral feeding, medication delivery, or gastric decompression. Safe care involves confirming tube position according to clinical protocol, maintaining patency with appropriate flushing, securing the tube, and monitoring the nose, mouth, abdomen, and respiratory status for complications such as displacement, blockage, irritation, or aspiration. In clinical settings, consistent NG tube care supports reliable nutrition and treatment, helps identify problems early, and reduces preventable harm during short- or longer-term patient management.
