Peat Bag Method

The Peat Bag Method is an environmental field technique that uses standardized peat enclosed in porous bags to study biological and chemical processes in soil, wetlands, or aquatic environments. Water, dissolved substances, and microorganisms can pass through the bag while the peat remains contained, allowing researchers to recover and compare material after a defined exposure period. Changes in peat mass, structure, chemistry, or microbial activity can indicate decomposition rates, nutrient cycling, and site conditions. Because the method provides a consistent test substrate, it supports comparisons among locations and helps evaluate ecosystem functioning, environmental change, and restoration outcomes.

2019

A protocol for hydrothermal carbonization of vegetable food waste in an autoclave is presented, with subsequent dry thermal treatment at 275 °C in a continuous flow reactor desorbing volatile organic substances. The aim is to produce a carbon material suitable as soil amendment product or substrate component.

Isolation of Human Monocytes by Double Gradient Centrifugation and Their Differentiation to Macrophages in Teflon-coated Cell Culture Bags

We present a simple and efficient protocol for the generation of human macrophages. Buffy coats are processed by double density gradient centrifugation and isolated monocytes are then differentiated to macrophages in Teflon-coated cell culture bags. This maximizes macrophage yields and facilitates cell harvesting for subsequent experiments.

2019

Here, we present a protocol for a study comparing the efficacy, safety, and delivery of olive-oil-based 3CB and soybean-oil-based CoB formulations in adults requiring parenteral nutrition. The results revealed that olive-oil-based 3CBs is non-inferior and well tolerated compared to soybean formulations.

Handwashing is widely recommended to prevent infectious disease transmission. However, there is little evidence on which handwashing methods are most efficacious at removing infectious disease pathogens. We developed a method to assess the efficacy of handwashing methods at removing microorganisms.
