High Voltage Generator

A high voltage generator is an electrical system that produces a large potential difference, enabling controlled delivery of energy for scientific and medical equipment. It typically raises input voltage through a transformer, converts alternating current to direct current with rectifiers, and may use capacitors or feedback circuits to stabilize the output under load. In medicine, high voltage generators supply X-ray tubes, where accelerated electrons strike a target to produce diagnostic radiation, and support certain radiation-treatment systems and specialized laboratory instruments. Reliable voltage regulation, insulation, and safety controls help maintain consistent performance while limiting electrical hazards and ensuring accurate clinical results.

Generation of Three-Phase Voltage

2024

A three-phase AC generator has a rotor with a rotating magnet placed within the stator mounted with the stationary three-phase winding to generate three-phase voltages via mutual induction. These windings are evenly distributed around the inner circumference of the stator and are arranged 120 electrical degrees apart. Three-phase stator windings consist of three separate coils or groups of coils, known as phases, each connected in Y (star) configuration or Delta configuration. As the rotor...

Generator Voltage Control

Generator voltage control is crucial for maintaining the stable operation of synchronous generators and wind turbines. In older models, a DC generator driven by the rotor delivers DC power to the rotor's field winding, and the power is transferred through slip rings and brushes. In the latest models, static or brushless exciters are used. Static exciters rectify AC power from the generator terminals and then transfer the DC power directly to the rotor. Brushless exciters, on the other hand, use...

The movement of electrons in a conductor requires some form of energy or work, usually provided by an external force, like a battery. This force is called the electromotive force or voltage. The voltage between two points, referred to as points "a" and "b," in an electric circuit is the energy (or work) needed to move a unit charge from point "a" to point "b," and this relationship is expressed mathematically as In this equation, "w" represents the energy measured in joules (J), and "q"...

External electric field induces a voltage on the membrane of a cell, termed the induced membrane voltage (ΔΦ). By using the potentiometric dye di-8-ANEPPS, it is possible to measure the ΔΦ noninvasively. This video shows the protocol for measuring ΔΦ using di-8-ANEPPS.

Multiple Voltage Sources

Generally, a single battery is not enough to power some devices. In such cases, batteries can be combined in two ways: in series or in parallel. In series, the positive terminal of one battery is connected to the negative terminal of another battery. Hence, the voltage of each battery is added to give the net voltage, which is increased because each battery boosts the electrons that enter it. The same current flows through each battery because they are connected in series. Batteries are...
