Mouse Prostate

The mouse prostate is a male reproductive gland that produces components of seminal fluid and serves as an important model for studying prostate biology and disease. Its epithelial and stromal cells respond to androgen signaling, and coordinated interactions among distinct lobes regulate glandular development, secretory activity, and tissue maintenance. In medicine, mouse prostate models help researchers investigate inflammation, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer, and treatment responses by linking molecular changes to tissue-level outcomes. Comparative studies can also clarify how hormonal regulation, cell communication, and genetic alterations influence disease progression, supporting the development and preclinical evaluation of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

2023

In this video, we describe the procedure for the dissection of the urogenital system or UGS from a male mouse model. This UGS is further dissected ex vivo to isolate the prostate gland and study its role in prostate cancer development.

Intra-prostatic Injection of Cancer Cells: A Technique to Deliver Cancer Cells for Establishing Orthotopic Prostate Cancer Mouse Model
