Transmesenteric Pyeloplasty

Transmesenteric pyeloplasty is a surgical repair for ureteropelvic junction obstruction, in which narrowed or blocked drainage between the renal pelvis and ureter is corrected to restore urine flow from the kidney. Through a laparoscopic or robotic transmesenteric route, the surgeon reaches the retroperitoneum by carefully opening the intestinal mesentery, excises the obstructed segment, and reconnects the healthy ureter to the renal pelvis, often over a temporary stent. This approach applies reconstructive principles to minimally invasive urologic surgery and can relieve obstruction, preserve renal function, and reduce the need for extensive bowel mobilization in appropriately selected patients.
