Hemispatial Neglect

Hemispatial neglect is a neurological syndrome in which a person fails to attend or respond to stimuli on one side of space, often the left side after right parietal or broader attention-network injury. Unlike primary blindness or weakness, it reflects disrupted allocation of spatial attention, causing competing representations of the environment to become unevenly weighted. Clinicians identify neglect through tasks such as line bisection, target cancellation, object description, and drawing, which reveal characteristic omissions. Understanding this disorder supports lesion localization, rehabilitation planning, and outcome monitoring, including visual-scanning training and prism-based approaches that aim to rebalance spatial behavior.

2021

The goal was to design, build, and pilot a novel virtual reality task to detect and characterize unilateral spatial neglect, a syndrome affecting 23-46% of acute stroke survivors, expanding the role of virtual reality in the study and management of neurologic disease.

A Common Marmoset Model of Mother-Infant Intervention for Breastfeeding Disorders in the Presence of Paternal Inhibition and Maternal Neglect

2023

Here, we present a nonhuman primate model of mother-infant intervention for breastfeeding disorders in the presence of paternal inhibition and maternal neglect. The mate model video complements education to support primate and human caregivers with respect to infants with breastfeeding problems such as pain.

2016

A protocol to synthesize peptoids with mixed cationic functionality in the same sequence is presented (lysine- and arginine-type monomers). Subsequent testing of these compounds against Leishmania mexicana, the protozoan parasites that cause cutaneous leishmaniasis, is also described.

Discontinuing Intravenous Fluids and a Peripheral Intravenous Line

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT Intravenous (IV) fluid administration and peripheral IV catheters (PIVs) may be discontinued for a number of reasons. The most common reason for discontinuing IV fluids is that the patient has returned to normal body fluid volume (euvolemia) and is able to maintain adequate oral fluid intake or is being discharged from the hospital. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control Guidelines...

Airfoil Behavior: Pressure Distribution over a Clark Y-14 Wing

2023

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire An airfoil is a 2-dimensional wing section that represents critical wing performance characteristics. The pressure distribution and lift coefficient are important parameters that characterize the behavior of airfoils. The pressure distribution is directly related to the lift generated by airfoils. A Clark Y-14 airfoil, which is used in this...
