Motion Capture Apparatus

Motion capture apparatus is a system that records and quantifies body or limb movement, providing objective measurements for studying motor behavior in neuroscience. Optical systems track reflective markers with multiple cameras, while inertial systems use motion sensors to measure changes in acceleration and orientation; software then reconstructs movement over time as kinematic data. Researchers use these measurements to examine motor control, coordination, gait, and responses to sensory or neural perturbations. Motion capture can also help characterize movement impairments, evaluate rehabilitation outcomes, and link behavioral changes to brain function in both healthy participants and individuals with neurological disorders.

2026

This protocol presents a standardized full-body motion capture approach for assessing the object pick-up task, illustrating how distinct movement strategies and compensatory patterns can be quantitatively characterized during this common functional activity.

Substantiating Appropriate Motion Capture Techniques for the Assessment of Nordic Walking Gait and Posture in Older Adults

The aim was to substantiate optimal use of data collection techniques for Nordic walking gait and posture analysis. Three-dimensional motion capture should be used during short duration analysis (i.e. single gait cycle), while accelerometry should be employed for longer duration analysis (i.e. repeated cycles) like a 6 Minute Walk Test.

Multifunctional Setup for Studying Human Motor Control Using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Electromyography, Motion Capture, and Virtual Reality

Transcranial magnetic stimulation, electromyography, and 3D motion capture are commonly used non-invasive techniques for investigating neuromuscular function in humans. In this paper, we describe a protocol that synchronously samples data generated by all three of these tools along with the unique addition of virtual reality stimulus presentation and feedback.

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.

Golgi Apparatus

Properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles that exit the ER. Motor proteins transport these vesicles to the Golgi apparatus for adding modifications that make these proteins functional at their destination. The Golgi apparatus is a eukaryotic organelle that has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. It is a primary sorting and dispatch station for cargo arriving from the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter the cis face of the Golgi, closest to the ER, and are...
