Superior Colliculus Injection

Superior colliculus injection is a targeted neuroscience technique for delivering experimental substances into the superior colliculus, a midbrain structure involved in integrating sensory information and coordinating orienting responses. Injections use stereotaxic guidance to place a micropipette or needle at defined coordinates, allowing localized delivery of tracers, pharmacological agents, viral vectors, or other reagents while limiting exposure to surrounding tissue. This approach helps researchers map neural connections, alter activity in selected circuits, and examine how the superior colliculus contributes to vision, sensorimotor integration, and behavior.
