Innovation Processes

Innovation processes are the structured and often iterative activities through which people or organizations generate, evaluate, and implement new ideas, products, or practices. In psychology, these processes involve cognitive mechanisms such as divergent thinking for producing varied ideas, convergent thinking for assessing alternatives, and feedback-driven refinement under social, motivational, and environmental influences. Studying innovation processes helps explain how creativity becomes practical change and how collaboration, leadership, risk perception, and organizational culture shape outcomes. This knowledge supports the design of workplaces, educational programs, and interventions that foster effective problem-solving, adaptability, and responsible innovation.

2024

The Diffusion of Innovation theory, proposed by Everett Rogers, explains how, why, and at what rate new ideas and technology spread through cultures. According to the theory, there are five categories of adopters: Innovators (2.5% of the population) are risk-takers willing to try new ideas. Early Adopters (13.5%): They are opinion leaders who adopt new ideas early but with more caution than innovators. Early Majority (34%): They adopt an innovation after a varying degree of time. This time...
