Coefficient Values

Coefficient values are numerical quantities that describe the strength, direction, or contribution of variables in a statistical model. In regression analysis, a coefficient is estimated from observed data and indicates the expected change in an outcome associated with a one-unit change in a predictor, while other variables in the model remain constant. The sign shows whether the relationship is positive or negative, and its magnitude depends on the variables’ scales and model structure. Interpreting coefficient values helps researchers evaluate associations, make predictions, compare effects, assess uncertainty, and communicate how statistical models represent patterns in data.

Biodiversity and Human Values

2019

Human civilization relies on biodiversity in many ways. Sudden changes in species biodiversity result in environmental changes that can modify weather patterns and therefore human civilizations. Humans are dependent on agriculture, which developed when ancestral humans found species that made suitable foods. At least 11,000 years ago, humans started to select plant and animal species to be cultivated on farms. Going back for thousands of years, humans have been artificially selecting species...

Professional Values

Nurses are responsible for caring for patients during birth, death, illness, and healing. Professional values guide the decisions and actions that nurses make in their careers. If nurses know the decisions and actions to take, providing patients with exceptional care is possible. The values that are the foundation of the nursing profession are altruism, autonomy, human dignity, and social justice. First, altruism refers to the concern for the welfare and well-being of others without personal...

Coefficient of Variation

The coefficient of variation measures the dispersion of the data points or distribution around the mean. Using the coefficient of variation, we can compare two data series with drastically different means or different units of measurement. The coefficient of variation for a sample and a population is expressed as a percentage of the ratio of standard deviation to the mean. The coefficient of variation is a practical statistical tool in finance. It allows investors to assess the volatility or...

Critical Values

A critical value is a definite value obtained from a particular probability distribution at a predecided confidence level (or a predecided significance level) for a given population parameter. The critical value provides demarcation that separates the sample statistics that are likely to occur from the ones that are unlikely to occur based on the given probability distribution and the population parameter to be estimated. The critical value for normal distribution is obtained from the z...

Coefficient of Correlation

The correlation coefficient, r, developed by Karl Pearson in the early 1900s, is numerical and provides a measure of strength and direction of the linear association between the independent variable x and the dependent variable y. If you suspect a linear relationship between x and y, then r can measure how strong the linear relationship is. What the VALUE of r tells us: The value of r is always between –1 and +1: –1 ≤ r ≤ 1. The size of the correlation r indicates the strength of the linear...
