Multiple Allele Traits

Pour le même gène, de multiples allèles peuvent interagirpour influencer des phénotypescomme la forme et la composition en protéinesdes cellules d'un individu. 
Par exemple, dans les érythrocytes ou globules rouges,la protéine d'hémoglobine a un composant codé parle gène de la bêta-globine pour lequel plusieursdifférents allèles ont été identifiés. 
Collectivement, ce sont les multiplesallèles de bêta-globine. 
Pour l'allèle faucille mutante,les homozygotes montrent des globules rougesen forme de croissant rigidequi obstruent les vaisseaux sanguins. 
Alors que ceux avec l'allèle normal,ont la forme de disques souples comme les érythrocytes quivoyagent facilement à travers le système vasculaire. 
Il faut noter que les hétérozygotes peuvent afficherquelques cellules légèrement courbéesdont la forme est exacerbée par le manque d'oxygène. 
Puisque la morphologie érythrocytaire des hétérozygotesse situe entre celle des homozygotes. 
Voici un exemple d'interaction entre allèlesappelée dominance incomplète. 
Si l'allèle drépanocytaire dominaitles hétérozygotes ne montreraient quedes cellules en forme de faucille,ce qui n'est pas le cas, moléculairement des hétérozygotesmettent en évidence une autre interaction d'allèlesappelée codominance. 
C'est parce que les produits protéiquesde l'allèle normal et de l'allèle faucille,qui causent le collage des protéines de l'hémoglobine,se retrouvent en quantités à peu près égalesdans leurs globules rouges. 
Si seulement l'allèle drépanocytaire était exprimé,ce serait la domination, mais ce n'est pas le cas. 
En étudiant les interactions d'allèles aux niveauxmoléculaires et cellulaires,les recherches peuvent comprendreles phénotypes et les complications des conditions humainesqui en résultent comme la drépanocytose,ce qui améliore le traitement.

<h4>Le concept de l’allélisme multiple</h4>
 
 L’allélisme multiple décrit les gènes qui existent sous trois formes alléliques ou plus. Bien que les organismes diploïdes, comme les humains, ne possèdent normalement que deux allèles de chaque gène, de multiples allèles de nombreux gènes humains (pour ne pas dire la plupart) sont présents dans une population. Le groupe sanguin est un exemple d’allélisme multiple. Il y a trois allèles pour le groupe sanguin (gène HBB) chez l’homme : IA, IB et i.
 
 <h4>La dominance incomplète</h4>
 
 L’anémie drépanocytaire, qui est provoquée par une mutation dans le gène codant la bêta-globine (HBB), est un exemple de la dominance incomplète. Deux copies de l’allèle de drépanocytose sont nécessaires pour la maladie, avec des homozygotes de drépanocytose produisant des globules rouges raides et en forme de croissant qui obstruent des vaisseaux sanguins. D’autre part, les individus homozygotes pour l’allèle normal de la bêta-globine font des érythrocytes flexibles et discoïdes qui se propagent facilement à travers le système vasculaire.
 
 Cependant, les hétérozygotes qui ont un allèle normal et un allèle de drépanocytose font des globules rouges normaux (discoïdes) et d’autres en forme de faucille, que l’on considère comme possédant le trait de la drépanocytose. Ces personnes souffrent rarement de complications de la maladie, à moins, par exemple, qu’elles ne rencontrent des niveaux faibles d’oxygène.  <h4>La codominance</h4>
 
 Au niveau moléculaire, les hétérozygotes de drépanocytose présentent également une codominance, puisque les allèles normaux et drépanocytaires produisent à peu près les mêmes niveaux de leurs produits protéiques dans les globules rouges.
 
 Le groupe sanguin est un autre exemple de codominance. IA, IB, et i sont tous des allèles de groupe sanguin chez l’homme. Les allèles IA et IB codent respectivement les protéines antigènes A et B, et l’allèle i n’encode aucune protéine antigène. IA et IB sont dominants par rapport i, et deux copies de i sont nécessaires pour le phénotype du groupe sanguin O. Cependant, IA et IB sont codominants. Ainsi, chez un individu hétérozygote IAIB, les antigènes A et B sont tous les deux exprimés et se trouvent à la surface de chaque globule rouge.

Multiple alleles can shape how a trait is inherited in a population. A gene may have more than two allele forms, even though each person still carries only two alleles for that gene.

These allele combinations can produce traits with more than two possible outcomes. The ABO blood group system is a common example of a multiple allele trait. It shows how different alleles can interact to determine an organism’s phenotype, or observable trait.

Multiple allele traits help explain why inheritance patterns can be more varied than a simple dominant-recessive model. They are an important part of Mendelian genetics and are often used to study how genetic variation appears in real populations.
