Weightlessness

Rappelons que si l’on ne tient pas compte des effets de frottement de l’air, tous les corps, quelle que soit leur masse, tombent avec une accélération constante connue sous le nom d’accélération due à la gravité.
De tels corps sont appelés corps en chute libre et la force nette agissant sur eux n’est due qu’à leur poids. Ils atteignent le sol en même temps.
Par conséquent, en l’absence de forces de contact, tout corps en chute libre fait l’expérience de l’apesanteur.
Par exemple, dans un tour de montagnes russes, le passager est soumis à l’action de la force normale et de la force gravitationnelle. Lorsque la voiture atteint le sommet de la boucle, le cycliste est momentanément soulevé du siège, supprimant ainsi la force normale.

Weightlessness happens when contact forces disappear, even though gravity is still present. In physics, an object in free fall has only gravity acting on it. If the net external force on the object is its weight, the object is accelerating toward the center of the Earth.

Galileo showed that, without air resistance, all objects fall with the same acceleration g. On Earth, falling objects are never truly in free fall because air always pushes upward with some resistance force. That is why real falling objects do not match the ideal case exactly.

Weightlessness is often called zero gravity, but gravity does not vanish in space. Gravity exists everywhere in the universe because it is the force that attracts two bodies to each other. Astronauts in a spacecraft can still feel weightless if the spacecraft is accelerating downward at g.

The same effect can happen in an elevator or aircraft during free fall. A person standing on a weighing scale in free fall has no reaction force from the scale. The scale reading becomes zero, and the person experiences weightlessness. The apparent weightlessness is the same in an aircraft and in orbit when free fall is occurring.
