N’oubliez pas que les tableaux de distribution des fréquences permettent d’organiser les données quantitatives en plusieurs catégories, telles que le nombre de livres dans différentes gammes de prix.
De tels tableaux de distribution de fréquence peuvent être représentés visuellement à l’aide d’histogrammes, un graphique composé de barres de largeur égale dessinées sans espaces. 
L’axe vertical représente les fréquences de chaque classe, et l’axe horizontal représente les limites de classe. 
Alors, que sont les frontières de classe ? Le premier intervalle de la table de données indique que le prix varie de 5 à 10 dollars, et le deuxième intervalle propose la fourchette de prix de 11 à 16. 
Notez que la fourchette de prix entre 10 et 11 est absente du tableau. Cet écart est comblé en calculant leurs points médians, appelés limites de classe.
Ces limites de classe sont représentées sur l’axe horizontal et les fréquences correspondantes sur l’axe vertical. Les barres verticales, appelées bacs, relient les limites de classe et les valeurs de fréquence.

L'histogramme est une représentation graphique sous forme xy de la distribution des données dans un ensemble de données. L'axe horizontal des x indique ce que représentent les données (par exemple, la distance entre votre domicile et votre établissement scolaire). L'axe vertical des y représente soit la fréquence, soit la fréquence relative (ou fréquence en pourcentage ou probabilité). Un histogramme est constitué de barres contiguës (adjacentes). La hauteur de chaque barre correspond aux valeurs des fréquences. Le graphique conserve la même forme avec les étiquettes appropriées. L'histogramme (comme le diagramme à tiges et feuilles) permet de visualiser la forme, le centre et la dispersion des données. Généralement, on utilise un histogramme pour représenter de grands ensembles de données quantitatives continues. Le principal avantage d'un histogramme est qu'il permet aisément de représenter de grandes quantités de données. Une règle générale consiste à utiliser un histogramme lorsque l'ensemble de données comporte au moins 100 valeurs. Pour construire un histogramme, on décide du nombre de barres ou d'intervalles, également appelés classes, nécessaires pour représenter les données. De nombreux histogrammes comportent de cinq à quinze barres ou classes pour garantir la clarté, mais on peut choisir le nombre de barres adapté aux besoins.

A histogram shows how data is distributed in a data set. It uses an x-y graph to display the pattern of the data. The x-axis is labeled with what the data represents, such as distance from home to school. The y-axis shows frequency, relative frequency, percent frequency, or probability.

A histogram is made of adjoining bars. The height of each bar matches the frequency value for that class. Even with different labels, the graph keeps the same overall shape. Like a stemplot, a histogram can show the shape, center, and spread of the data.

Histograms are most useful for large, continuous, quantitative data sets. They can display large data sets clearly and quickly. A common rule of thumb is to use a histogram when a data set has 100 values or more.

To build a histogram, you choose how many bars or intervals, also called classes, will represent the data. Many histograms use five to 15 bars for clarity. The right number depends on the data and the level of detail needed.
