La capacité pulmonaire totale ou CCM représente tous les volumes dans les deux poumons combinés à un moment donné, y compris le volume courant, le volume de la réserve inspiratoire, le volume de la réserve expiratoire et le volume résiduel.

Inspiratory capacity, or IC, is the maximum amount of air that can be inhaled with full effort. It is found by adding tidal volume and inspiratory reserve volume. IC usually ranges from 2.4 to 3.6 liters.

Functional residual capacity, or FRC, is the air left in the lungs after a normal exhalation. It is calculated from expiratory reserve volume and residual volume. FRC typically ranges from 2.6 to 3.2 liters. This capacity helps maintain gas exchange between breaths, keeps a baseline oxygen level in the lungs, and provides a buffer for efficient breathing.
