La force de frottement statique n’est indépendante de la surface de contact que lorsque la pression normale se situe dans une plage spécifique qui ne provoque pas de déformation ou d’endommagement des surfaces de contact.
Lorsque la brouette commence à glisser, la force cinétique de frottement développée est proportionnelle à la force normale.
Elle est généralement inférieure à la force de frottement statique maximale. Cependant, si le chariot se déplace à très faible vitesse sur la surface, ils deviennent à peu près égaux.
Le coefficient de frottement cinétique dépend généralement des propriétés de surface du matériau et de l'environnement environnant.

Characteristics of Dry Friction

Le frottement sec se produit lorsque deux surfaces solides glissent l'une contre l'autre sans lubrification ou fluide présent. Il provoque de la résistance lors de la poussée d'objets le long d'une surface, comme lorsqu'un jardinier pousse une brouette. La force appliquée pour déplacer la charrette provoque un frottement sec entre la roue et le sol. Avant que la brouette ne commence à bouger, la force de frottement statique agit tangentiellement à la surface de contact, s'opposant à la force qui s'apprête à induire le mouvement. Cette force de frottement empêche la brouette de glisser et contribue à maintenir sa stabilité. Il est important de noter que la force de frottement statique est présente uniquement lorsqu'il n'y a pas de mouvement relatif entre les deux surfaces. Lorsque la brouette est sur le point de glisser, la force de frottement statique maximale au niveau de l'interface est directement proportionnelle à la force normale. Dry friction is the resistance between two solid surfaces that move against each other without lubrication or any fluid. A common example is a gardener pushing a wheelbarrow across the ground. The wheel and the ground create dry friction that slows the motion.

Before the wheelbarrow starts to move, static friction acts at the contact surface. Static friction is the force that opposes motion before slipping begins, and it helps keep the wheelbarrow stable. It is present only when there is no relative motion between the two surfaces.

As the wheelbarrow is about to slip, the maximum static friction depends on the normal force. The normal force is the push that surfaces exert on each other at the contact point. This maximum static friction is described by the coefficient of static friction, which depends on the materials in contact and on how rough their surfaces are.

Static friction also does not depend on contact area when the normal pressure stays within a range that avoids deformation or damage. So, even if the wheel and the ground touch over a larger or smaller area, the static friction can stay the same under those conditions. Once the wheelbarrow begins to slide, kinetic friction takes over.

Kinetic friction is the friction force during motion. It is also proportional to the normal force, but it is usually smaller than the maximum static friction. At very low speed, however, kinetic friction can become nearly equal to the maximum static friction because the surfaces have more time to interact.

The coefficient of kinetic friction mainly depends on surface properties and the surrounding environment. Temperature, humidity, and surface contamination can change its value. Knowing how static and kinetic friction respond to material type, surface roughness, and environmental conditions helps in choosing the right materials for different uses.
