Considérons un circuit représentant une section de ligne.
La tension et le courant sont mesurés à partir de l’extrémité réceptrice, avec une impédance série et une admittance de dérivation définies par unité de longueur.
En utilisant les lois de Kirchhoff et en prenant les limites delta x tend vers zéro, deux équations différentielles linéaires sont dérivées. En dérivant la tension et en la substituant dans l’équation du courant, on obtient une équation homogène du second ordre.
La solution implique deux constantes d’intégration et une constante de propagation. En substituant cela dans l’équation de tension et en réarrangeant le dénominateur, on obtient l’expression du courant avec l’impédance caractéristique.
Après avoir évalué les constantes d’intégration à partir des conditions aux limites et identifié les fonctions hyperboliques, on obtient les paramètres ABCD de la droite distribuée. Ceux-ci fournissent le courant et la tension en tout point par rapport aux valeurs d’extrémité de réception.
Les paramètres ABCD sont également évalués à l’extrémité. La constante de propagation, une quantité complexe, est sans dimension lorsqu’elle est multipliée par la longueur et aide à déterminer les fonctions hyperboliques.
Ces paramètres s’appliquent à n’importe quelle longueur de ligne. L’approximation peut être utilisée pour les calculs manuels impliquant des lignes de courte et moyenne longueur.

La ligne a une impédance série z=R+jωL par unité de longueur et une admittance de shunt y=G+jωC par unité de longueur. En appliquant la loi de tension de Kirchhoff (KVL) et la loi de courant de Kirchhoff (KCL) à cette configuration, déduisez les relations pour les variations de tension et de courant le long de la ligne.

Transmission lines carry electric power, and their resistance, inductance, and capacitance are spread out along the line. Because these properties are distributed per unit length, voltage and current change as they move from one end of the line to the other. Differential equations are used to describe that variation.

A line-section model helps show how this works. In the model, a small length, Δx, is used to represent the line. Voltage V(x) and current i(x) are measured from the receiving end. The line also includes a series impedance, z = R + jωL, and a shunt admittance, y = G + jωC, per unit length.

Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law and Kirchhoff’s Current Law are applied to the small line section. As Δx becomes very small, the results turn into linear, first-order, homogeneous differential equations. These equations describe how voltage and current change along the transmission line.

Solving the equations gives the propagation constant, γ. This complex value combines the effects of series impedance and shunt admittance. Its real part shows attenuation, and its imaginary part shows phase shift. The product of γ and the line length is dimensionless and is used in the hyperbolic functions that describe the line behavior.

The general solutions for voltage and current include two integration constants. These constants are found from boundary conditions at the receiving end. The solutions also define the characteristic impedance, Zc, which reflects the intrinsic impedance of the transmission line. Voltage and current can then be written with cosh and sinh functions.

From these hyperbolic expressions, the ABCD parameters, also called transmission line constants, are obtained. They give a matrix form that relates the voltage and current at any point on the line to the values at the receiving end. The exact ABCD parameters work for any line length, while short- and medium-length lines may use approximations for hand calculations.
