Ces interactions peuvent influencer profondément la dynamique écologique et les processus évolutifs, et elles sont essentielles à de nombreuses relations pathogènes et symbiotiques.<h3>Coopération nématode–bactérie</h3>Un exemple frappant est la relation entre la bactérie Gram négatif Xenorhabdus nematophila et le nématode parasite Steinernema carpocapsae. Les nématodes juvéniles porteurs de X. nematophila habitent le sol et nécessitent un insecte hôte pour mûrir. Microbial cooperation describes helpful interactions between different species. In these partnerships, microbes work together for one or mutual benefit. These interactions can shape ecosystems and evolution. They also play major roles in symbiosis and disease.

One clear example involves the Gram-negative bacterium Xenorhabdus nematophila and the parasitic nematode Steinernema carpocapsae. Juvenile nematodes carry the bacteria in the soil and need an insect host to mature. When the nematode infects an insect, it releases the bacteria into the insect's body. The bacteria multiply and use a type III secretion system to release toxins that kill the host.

After the insect dies, the bacteria make protective compounds that help stop microbial breakdown and ant scavenging. They also send signals that trigger nematode maturation. The insect cadaver then becomes a place for adult nematodes and eggs. New juveniles pick up X. nematophila and spread to find new hosts, which continues the cycle.

Fungi and bacteria also cooperate during movement through soil. Fungi such as Fusarium species form long hyphal networks that release water and mucilage. This creates thin water films around the hyphae. Nearby bacteria detect these channels through chemotaxis, which is movement in response to chemicals, and gather around the fungal networks.

These water pathways are often called fungal highways. They help motile bacteria such as Pseudomonas putida move through soil that would otherwise be difficult to cross. The bacteria follow chemical cues from the hyphae and use the water films to reach new nutrient-rich areas. This cooperation can also help fungi by improving access to nutrients or by offering microbial protection.

In some systems, such as Aspergillus and Bacillus species, transcriptomic analysis shows coordinated metabolic changes. In these cases, the fungus downregulates activity, while the bacteria increase thiamine biosynthesis. These patterns suggest nutrient sharing. Together, these examples show how microbial cooperation supports dispersal, survival, and growth in different environments.
