La cavité buccale, ou bouche, comprend les lèvres, les joues, le palais et la langue.
Les parois de la bouche sont tapissées d’un épithélium squameux épais et stratifié, tandis que les gencives, le palais dur et le dos de la langue ont un épithélium légèrement kératinisé.
Les lèvres et les joues sont des structures musculaires composées respectivement de l’orbicularis oris et des buccinateurs.
Le frein labial est un pli qui relie l’intérieur de chaque lèvre à la gencive.
La cavité buccale comprend le vestibule buccal, un espace entre les lèvres ou les joues et les gencives, et la cavité buccale proprement dite, un espace intérieur qui se poursuit vers les fauces.
Le toit de la bouche est divisé en palais dur et mou. Le palais dur est formé par les os maxillaires et palatins et est recouvert d’une muqueuse.
Le palais mou est un pli flexible composé principalement de muscle squelettique. La luette, une structure en forme de doigt, pend de son bord libre.

The hard palate, formed by the maxillae and palatine bones, is covered by mucous membrane and contributes to chewing. The uvula, a finger-shaped structure, hangs from the soft palate's free edge.
