La ventilation non invasive, ou VNI, fournit une assistance ventilatoire sans insérer de voies respiratoires artificielles.
Ce type de ventilation est utilisé chez les patients souffrant d’insuffisance respiratoire qui sont conscients et peuvent respirer de manière indépendante, mais qui ont besoin d’aide pour améliorer les échanges gazeux.
Les deux types de VNI sont les ventilateurs à pression négative et la ventilation à pression positive non invasive, ou VNI.
Un ventilateur à pression négative, qui ressemble à une cuirasse, crée un vide autour de la poitrine ou du corps pour aspirer l’air dans les poumons, simulant ainsi la respiration.
