High Density Fat

High-density fat refers to an adipose material or tissue construct containing a relatively large amount of lipid-rich tissue within a given volume, a property that can influence its biological and physical behavior. Its density reflects factors such as cell packing, extracellular matrix content, and the removal of fluid or air during processing, which can alter structure, mechanical properties, and transport of nutrients or signaling molecules. In bioengineering, characterizing and controlling fat density supports the design of adipose tissue models, engineered grafts, and biomaterials for studying tissue function, regeneration, and the interaction between fat and surrounding cells.

Determining the Density of a Solid and Liquid

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Michael Evans — Georgia Institute of Technology The ratio of the mass of a substance to its volume is known as the mass density or, simply, the density of the substance. Density is expressed in units of mass per volume, such as g/mL or kg/m3. Because the density of a substance does not depend on the amount of substance present, density is an “intensive property”. To measure the density of a sample of material, both the mass and volume of the sample must be determined.

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.
