Kaplan-meier Plotter

Kaplan-Meier Plotter is a bioinformatics tool for evaluating whether molecular features, especially gene expression, are associated with patient survival, making it useful for cancer biomarker research. It stratifies patients into groups based on a selected expression threshold, estimates the probability of remaining alive or disease-free over time with the Kaplan-Meier estimator, and compares groups using survival curves and statistical tests such as the log-rank test. Researchers can use the resulting plots to assess candidate prognostic markers across cancer types and clinical outcomes. These analyses support hypothesis generation and biomarker prioritization for further validation, while interpretation should account for cohort composition, cutoff selection, and multiple testing.

Kaplan-Meier Approach

2025

The Kaplan-Meier estimator is a non-parametric method used to estimate the survival function from time-to-event data. In medical research, it is frequently employed to measure the proportion of patients surviving for a certain period after treatment. This estimator is fundamental in analyzing time-to-event data, making it indispensable in clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and reliability engineering. By estimating survival probabilities, researchers can evaluate treatment effectiveness,...

2025

This study evaluates prognostic systems for colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma patients using machine learning models and competing risk analyses. It identifies log odds of positive lymph nodes as a superior predictor compared to pN staging, demonstrating strong predictive performance and aiding clinical decision-making through robust survival prediction tools.
