Anti Tnf Medications

Anti-TNF medications are biologic therapies that reduce inflammation by blocking tumor necrosis factor, a signaling protein involved in immune responses and tissue damage. These drugs bind TNF or prevent it from activating its cell-surface receptors, thereby limiting downstream inflammatory signaling and immune-cell recruitment. In clinical practice, anti-TNF therapy is used to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and other immune-mediated disorders when conventional treatments are insufficient. By controlling excessive inflammation, these medications can relieve symptoms, protect affected tissues, and improve long-term disease management, although their effects on immune function require careful monitoring for infections and other adverse events.

Drugs for Treatment of Crohn's Disease in IBD Using Biologic Agents: Anti-TNF

2024

Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), a proinflammatory cytokine, contributes significantly to the inflammation seen in Crohn's disease. It exists as soluble TNF and membrane-bound TNF, with actions mediated through TNF receptors (TNFR). TNFR activation leads to the release of proinflammatory cytokines, T-cell activation, collagen production, and leukocyte migration, all contributing to inflammation in Crohn's disease. Anti-TNF monoclonal antibodies, namely infliximab (Remicade), adalimumab (Humira),...

Neutrophils play an important role not only in host defense against invading microorganisms, but are also involved in the immune surveillance of tumor cells. Here, we describe techniques related to the isolation of neutrophils with anti-tumor properties and methods for monitoring anti-tumor neutrophil function in vitro and in vivo.
