High Volume Air Sampler

A high volume air sampler is an environmental monitoring instrument that draws large quantities of air through a collection medium to measure airborne particulate matter and assess air quality. Its high-capacity pump pulls air at a controlled flow rate, while a filter captures suspended particles; technicians determine particle concentration by relating the collected mass to the known volume of sampled air, with the material also available for chemical or microscopic analysis. This method supports regulatory monitoring, pollution investigations, workplace and community exposure assessment, and studies of sources such as industrial emissions, traffic, and dust. Results help evaluate environmental impacts and guide air-quality management.

Ammonia emissions are a major threat to the environment by eutrophication, soil acidification and fine particle formation and stem mainly from agricultural sources. This method allows ammonia loss measurements in replicated field trials enabling statistical analysis of emissions and of relationships between crop development and emissions.
