Cordyceps Sinensis

Cordyceps sinensis is a parasitic fungus that infects ghost moth caterpillars in high-altitude regions of the Tibetan Plateau, forming a compact fungal mass within the host before producing a stalk-like fruiting body. In traditional medicine, the dried fungus and host have been used in preparations intended to support respiratory, renal, and general health, while biomedical research examines polysaccharides, nucleosides, and other metabolites for immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic effects. However, natural specimens are scarce and variable, so cultivated products and standardized clinical studies are important for evaluating safety, composition, and therapeutic value.

Comparative Study on the Polysaccharide Contents and Antioxidant Activities of Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. sinensis and Hippophae gyantsensis

2025

This study compared the polysaccharide contents of Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. sinensis Rousi and Hippophae gyantsensis (Rousi) Y. S. Lian obtained through hot water extraction and quantified through phenol-sulfuric acid colorimetry. We also investigated in vitro antioxidant activities of polysaccharides from these two Hippophae species through 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging experiments.

A detached-leaf bioassay protocol was established for mass-rearing chilli thrips using a modified detached-leaf method in agar-containing glass containers, ensuring high survival and synchronized development. This system enables efficient screening of entomopathogenic fungi virulence against 2nd instar larvae and provides a reliable thrips supply for laboratory, greenhouse, and field evaluations.

2023

This protocol presents an optimized detached-leaf bioassay system for evaluating the effectiveness of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) against the mustard aphid (Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt.)), a parthenogenetic insect. The method outlines the data collection process during Petri dish experiments, enabling researchers to consistently measure the virulence of EPF against mustard aphids and other parthenogenetic insects.
