Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation

Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is a fertility-preservation technique that stores ovarian tissue at very low temperatures for potential future use, particularly when cancer treatment or other medical care may impair reproductive function. The procedure typically removes and cuts ovarian cortex into thin strips, exposes the tissue to cryoprotective agents, and preserves it through controlled-rate freezing or vitrification in liquid nitrogen; later, the tissue may be thawed and reimplanted to restore ovarian hormone production and fertility. This approach can be used when urgent treatment prevents egg collection and is an important option for children and patients who cannot undergo conventional embryo or oocyte cryopreservation.

The isolation of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes is a time consuming and unpredictable procedure. This study describes methods for cryopreservation and thawing of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes that allows for more efficient use of cells. The thawed NRCMs can be used for various experiments without the need for performing isolations each time.
