Resting-state Eeg

Resting-state EEG is a noninvasive method for recording spontaneous electrical activity in the brain while a person remains awake and does not perform a specific task. Electrodes placed on the scalp detect voltage fluctuations produced by synchronized neuronal activity, allowing researchers to analyze oscillations across frequency bands under conditions such as eyes open or eyes closed. These recordings reveal patterns of brain connectivity, arousal, and network organization without requiring an experimental stimulus. In neuroscience, resting-state EEG supports research on brain development, cognition, sleep, neurological and psychiatric disorders, and potential biomarkers of altered brain function.

EEG is a non-invasive technique that can measure brain activity. The neural activity generates electrical signals that are recorded by EEG electrodes placed on the scalp. When an individual is engaged in performing a cognitive task, brain activity changes and these changes can be recorded on the EEG graph. Therefore, it is a powerful tool for cognitive scientist aiming to better understand the neural correlates associated with different aspects of cognition, which will ultimately help them...

The Resting Membrane Potential

2019

Overview The relative difference in electrical charge, or voltage, between the inside and the outside of a cell membrane, is called the membrane potential. It is generated by differences in permeability of the membrane to various ions and the concentrations of these ions across the membrane. The Inside of a Neuron Is More Negative The membrane potential of a cell can be measured by inserting a microelectrode into a cell and comparing the charge to a reference electrode in the extracellular...

Non-restraining EEG Radiotelemetry: Epidural and Deep Intracerebral Stereotaxic EEG Electrode Placement
