Decision-making Process

The decision-making process is the cognitive and behavioral sequence through which people identify choices, evaluate information, and select actions to achieve goals or respond to circumstances. In psychology, it involves perceiving a problem, generating alternatives, estimating likely outcomes, and comparing those outcomes using memory, emotion, personal values, and available evidence; limited attention and cognitive biases can influence each stage. Studying this process helps explain judgments in everyday life, social interactions, education, health, and organizations. Research on decision-making also informs strategies for reducing bias, improving problem-solving, and supporting choices under uncertainty.
