ANS se lie au domaine N recombinant Ca2+-ATPase. Les spectres de fluorescence affichent un motif de type FRET lors de l’excitation à une longueur d’onde de 295 nm. La modification chimique du Trp médiée par le NBS éteint la fluorescence du domaine N, ce qui conduit à l’absence de transfert d’énergie (FRET) entre le résidu Trp et le SNA.
