The Mitotic Spindle

שתי משפחות של חלבונים מוטוריים הן חלק בלתי נפרד מהבנייה והתפעול של הציר המיטוטי: חלבונים הקשורים לקינזין ודינאין. בדרך כלל, חלבונים הקשורים לקינזין נעים לעבר קצוות הפלוס של מיקרוטובולים ודיניין נע לעבר הקצוות המינוס.

הציר המיטוטי - או מנגנון הציר - הוא מבנה אוקריוטי, ציטו-שלד המורכב מסיבי חלבון ארוכים הנקראים מיקרוטובולים. נוצר במהלך חלוקת התא, הציר מפריד בין כרומטידות אחיות ומעביר אותן לקצוות מנוגדים של תא הורה, שם הכרומוזומים הפרטיים כעת מפוזרים לשני גרעיני תאי בת.

התצורה הדו-קוטבית של הציר המיטוטי מקלה על הפרדה כרומוזומלית, ומכינה את התא לחלוקה. מנגנון אחד המבטיח יצירת ציר מיטוטי דו-קוטבי מסתמך על צנטרוזומים.
