Centrosome Duplication

צנטרוזום הוא המארגן העיקרי של תא איקריוטי וממלא תפקיד חיוני ביצירת הציר המיטוטי, סידור דו-קוטבי של מיקרוטובולים המפריד בין כרומטידים אחים. שני מוטות הצירים נוצרים על ידי שני צנטרוזומים הממוקמים מנוגדים.

בתחילת המיטוזה, הצנטרוזום מתפצל לשניים, הידוע גם בשם ניתוק צנטרוזומים. שני הצנטרוזומים המתקבלים מכילים כל אחד זוג צנטריולים ואת המטריצה הפריצנטריולרית. שני הצנטרוזומים יוצרים גרעין של מיקרוטובולים, בעיקר בצנטריולת האם, ויוצרים יחד את הציר המיטוטי.
מחזור החיים של צנטרוזום וכרומוזום דומים בכמה היבטים. הכפילות שלהם מתרחשת רק פעם אחת בכל מחזור ושניהם משוכפלים בתהליך שמרני למחצה שבו עותק חדש מופק מעותק האב הקיים.
