Correlation and Regression

רגרסיה ומתאם הן טכניקות סטטיסטיות הבוחנות את הקשר בין שני משתנים. 
בעוד רגרסיה משמשת להבנת השינוי במשתנה אחד שנגרם על ידי השינוי במשתנה אחר, מתאם מודד את הכוח ואת הכיוון של המתאם הליניארי בין שני המשתנים. 
רגרסיה ליניארית קובעת את הקשר בין שני משתנים על ידי התאמת קו לנקודות הנתונים. משוואת הקו מנבאת באופן אמין את הערך של משתנה לא ידוע אחד בהתבסס על משתנה ידוע.

Correlation and regression are used to study the relationship between two variables. Correlation shows how strongly the variables are associated. Regression helps describe that relationship with a line that can be used for prediction.

In linear regression, the relationship is written as a correlation coefficient. This coefficient is shown as r and ranges from -1 to +1. A positive value means the variables move in the same direction. A negative value means they move in opposite directions.

Values close to +1 or -1 show a strong correlation. A value near zero means there is no linear correlation. Statisticians use linear regression to find both the correlation coefficient and the best-fit equation.

The best-fit equation can then be used to predict a signal value, or y, in the linear equation. It can also be used to calculate the concentration of the substance that gives the signal, or x. This makes correlation and regression useful tools for analyzing data and making predictions.
