Abrasion Resistance of Concrete

אחד מהמבחנים הללו הוא מבחן דיסק מסתובב, שבו שלוש פלטות מסתובבות כנגד משטח הבטון תוך שימוש בצורן קרביד כחומר שוחק. מבחן נוסף הוא מבחן שחיקה באמצעות כדורי פלדה, בו משתמשים בכדורי פלדה מסתובבים ובמים כדי לדמות תהליך שחיקה. מבחן שלישי, המכונה מבחן גלגל ליטוש, מבוצע באמצעות מקדחה מותאמת הלוחצת על גלגלים המסתובבים כנגד משטח הבטון. מבחנים אלו מעריכים את עמידות הבטון לשחיקה על ידי מדידת עומק השחיקה שנוצר על פני השטח.

Concrete wear tests show how well a surface can stand up to abrasion and long-term use. Abrasion is the wearing away of a material by rubbing, scraping, or contact with moving solids. This property matters because concrete surfaces can lose material under vehicle traffic or when solids carried in water brush against them.

The transcript describes three tests used to measure concrete abrasion resistance. In the revolving disc test, three plates rotate against the concrete, and silicon carbide acts as the abrasive material. The steel ball abrasion test uses rotating steel balls and water to mimic wear. The dressing wheel test uses a modified drill press that presses rotating wheels against the concrete surface.

These tests measure wear resistance by checking how deep the abrasion reaches into the concrete. The results help show how concrete may perform in roads and hydraulic installations, such as canal linings. Abrasion resistance is often linked with the water-to-cement ratio and compressive strength, and a strong, durable surface layer usually gives better resistance. Proper finishing and curing are important for achieving that kind of surface.
