Rotary Homogenizer

A rotary homogenizer is a laboratory instrument that mechanically disrupts biological materials to produce a uniform suspension or extract, supporting sample preparation in biology and related fields. Its rotating blade or rotor generates intense shear within a surrounding vessel, breaking tissue, cells, or other particles into smaller components as the sample is mixed; processing conditions such as speed, duration, and sample volume influence homogenization quality. Researchers use rotary homogenizers to prepare tissues for biochemical assays, isolate cellular contents, and create consistent samples for microscopy or molecular analysis. Effective homogenization improves reproducibility while helping preserve the components required for downstream experiments.

Rotary Evaporation to Remove Solvent

2023

Source: Dr. Melanie Pribisko Yen and Grace Tang — California Institute of Technology Rotary evaporation is a technique most commonly used in organic chemistry to remove a solvent from a higher-boiling point compound of interest. The rotary evaporator, or "rotovap", was invented in 1950 by the chemist Lyman C. Craig. The primary use of a rotovap is to dry and purify samples for downstream applications. Its speed and ability to handle large volumes of solvent make rotary evaporation a preferred...

Test for Homogeneity

The goodness–of–fit test can be used to decide whether a population fits a given distribution, but it will not suffice to decide whether two populations follow the same unknown distribution. A different test, called the test for homogeneity, can be used to conclude whether two populations have the same distribution. To calculate the test statistic for a test for homogeneity, follow the same procedure as with the test of independence. The hypotheses for the test for homogeneity can be stated as...

Homogeneous Equilibria for Gaseous Reactions

Homogeneous Equilibria for Gaseous Reactions For gas-phase reactions, the equilibrium constant may be expressed in terms of either the molar concentrations (Kc) or partial pressures (Kp) of the reactants and products. A relation between these two K values may be simply derived from the ideal gas equation and the definition of molarity. According to the ideal gas equation: Molar concentration or molarity is given by number of moles divided by the volume: Thus, where P is partial pressure, V...
