Amino Peg Substitution

Amino PEG substitution is a chemical modification in which a polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain is attached to, or introduced through, an amino-functional group, creating a functional PEG derivative for synthesis and molecular engineering. The process typically relies on the nucleophilicity of an amine, which attacks an activated PEG reagent and displaces a leaving group to form a stable covalent linkage, such as an amide, carbamate, or related bond. By combining PEG’s water compatibility and flexible polymer structure with amine reactivity, this substitution supports controlled conjugation, surface functionalization, and the preparation of tailored materials and bioconjugates. Reaction selectivity depends on reagent design, solvent, pH, and protection of competing functional groups.

Source: Vy M. Dong and Daniel Kim, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine, CA Nucleophilic substitution reactions are among the most fundamental topics covered in organic chemistry. A nucleophilic substitution reaction is one where a nucleophile (electron-rich Lewis base) replaces a leaving group from a carbon atom. This video demonstrates an assay for screening antimicrobial compounds that efficiently eliminate biofilms using a peg-plate. The methodology monitors the biofilm's metabolic state after treatment with antimicrobial compounds, facilitating the determination of the minimum biofilm eradication concentration.

Radiolabeled Amino Acid Uptake Assay to Quantify Cellular Uptake of Amino Acids

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Visual masking is a term used by perceptual scientists to refer to a wide range of phenomena in which in an image is presented but not perceived by an observer because of the presentation of a second image. There are several different kinds of masking, many of them relatively intuitive and unsurprising. But one surprising and important type of masking is called Object Substitution Masking. It has been a focus of research in vision...
