Secondary Growth Method

Secondary growth method is a crystal-growth technique in which preformed seed crystals initiate and control the formation of a continuous crystalline layer, making it valuable for preparing structured chemical materials. In a typical process, seeds are deposited on a substrate and exposed to a synthesis solution under controlled temperature and composition; dissolved precursors crystallize on the seeds and extend the layer during hydrothermal or solvothermal treatment. In chemistry, this approach is used to fabricate zeolite and molecular-sieve membranes with improved crystal coverage, orientation, and separation performance, supporting applications in catalysis, adsorption, and molecular separations.

Primary and Secondary Growth in Roots and Shoots

2026

Vascular plants, which account for over 90% of the Earth’s vegetation, all undergo primary growth—which lengthens roots and shoots. Many land plants, notably woody plants, also undergo secondary growth—which thickens roots and shoots.Primary and secondary growth can occur simultaneously in a plant. While primary growth occurs in newer plant regions, secondary growth transpires in regions that have completed primary growth. There are overlaps and distinctions between root growth and shoot growth.
