Tag Retention Analysis

Tag Retention Analysis is a method for determining how long an identifying tag remains attached to, or detectable on, a marked organism or environmental sample, which is essential for interpreting monitoring data accurately. Researchers follow tagged subjects through recapture, resighting, or instrument records and estimate retention rates over time, while accounting for tag loss and incomplete detection. In environmental research, these estimates support studies of animal movement, survival, population size, and habitat use. Reliable retention models also reveal potential sampling bias, helping researchers select appropriate tags, improve field protocols, and strengthen long-term ecological assessments.

Soil Core Sample Collection for Water Retention Property Analysis

2026

Source:Alessia J. Marchesan1, Guillermo Hernandez Ramirez11Renewable Resources, University of Alberta. This video demonstrates the technique for collecting a soil sample for hydraulic property analysis. The sampling area is cleared, and the top crust is evacuated. The sampling ring is then placed into the soil to collect the sample. The ring with the sample is then cleaned, labeled, packed, and transferred undisturbed for analysis.

Determination of the Calcium Retention Capacity of Isolated Mitochondria

2025

This video demonstrates the procedure to assess mitochondrial calcium retention capacity by monitoring real-time changes in fluorescence as mitochondria uptake calcium. This assay is useful for studying mitochondrial function and calcium-related processes, including apoptosis and neurodegenerative diseases.

Our goals were to design, manufacture and test ferromagnetic stents for endothelial cell capture. Ten stents were tested for fracture and 10 more stents were tested for retained magnetism. Finally, 10 stents were tested in-vitro and 8 more stents were implanted in 4 pigs to show cell capture and retention.
