Antimicrobial Agents

Antimicrobial agents are substances that kill microorganisms or inhibit their growth, helping prevent and treat infections caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. Their effects depend on selective targeting of microbial features, such as bacterial cell-wall synthesis, protein production, nucleic-acid replication, or viral entry and replication, while minimizing damage to host cells. In immunology and infection research, these agents support studies of pathogen clearance, host immune responses, antimicrobial resistance, and microbiome disruption. Their clinical and laboratory use has transformed infection management, but resistance and adverse effects make accurate diagnosis, appropriate selection, and continued development of new therapies essential.

2024

Acute diarrhea, a common gastrointestinal disturbance, is characterized by the rapid evacuation of fluid stools, leading to an excessive weight in fluid. This condition typically arises from disorders affecting intestinal water and electrolyte transport. It can be triggered by an increased osmotic load within the intestine, excessive secretion of electrolytes and water, mucosal exudation of protein and fluid, or altered intestinal motility. The primary risks of acute diarrhea are dehydration...
