Matrix Producers

Matrix producers are cells that synthesize and organize extracellular matrix components, including collagen, proteoglycans, and adhesive glycoproteins, to support tissue structure and signaling. They regulate the matrix by secreting these materials and remodeling them through proteolytic enzymes, while inflammatory signals can alter their activity during infection. In immunology, matrix producers such as fibroblasts and tissue-associated stromal cells help shape immune-cell migration, barrier integrity, and local inflammatory responses. Studying their interactions with pathogens and leukocytes clarifies how infection affects tissue architecture and can reveal mechanisms underlying persistent inflammation, fibrosis, and tissue repair.

The Producer Price Index

2025

Tracking producer-level price movements is a crucial element of economic analysis and business planning. The Producer Price Index (PPI) serves this purpose by capturing average changes in the prices domestic producers receive for their goods and services over time. As a forward-looking indicator, the PPI often signals inflationary pressures before they are felt by consumers.Understanding the Structure of the PPIUnlike consumer-focused indexes, the PPI is organized around the supply side of the...

Producer Surplus for a Firm

2025

Producer surplus is the difference between the revenue a producer earns from selling a product and the minimum amount they are willing to accept for it. In a perfectly competitive market, producers are price takers. This means that a producer does not set their own price and sell the products at the prevailing market price. Consequently, the amount actually received by a firm is influenced by the market price of the product. The firm's willingness to supply is determined by its supply curve. In...

Assumptions on Producer Behavior

Production Production involves the creation of products. For example, a consumer electronic company may manufacture mobile phones, pharmaceutical companies manufacture drugs, and a clothing manufacturer may produce t-shirts. Assumptions To simplify the analysis of a firm's production behavior, certain assumptions are made. These assumptions allow economists to create models that can predict and explain firm behavior. While they may not always reflect reality perfectly, they provide a useful...

Dithranol (DT; 1,8-dihydroxy-9,10-dihydroanthracen-9-one) has previously been reported as a MALDI matrix for tissue imaging of small molecules; protocols for the use of DT for the MALDI imaging of endogenous lipids on the surface of tissue sections by positive-ion MALDI-MS on an ultrahigh-resolution quadrupole-FTICR instrument are provided here.

Preparation of Bacterial Nanocellulose Pellicles from Cellulose-Producing Bacteria

Source: Arias, S. L., et al. Fabrication of a Functionalized Magnetic Bacterial Nanocellulose with Iron Oxide Nanoparticles. J. Vis. Exp. (2016).This video demonstrates the production of nanocellulose by culturing cellulose-producing bacteria in a nutrient medium containing mannitol. The bacteria metabolize mannitol into glucose, which is then polymerized and extruded as glucan chains that crystallize into cellulose sheets, forming a three-dimensional matrix at the air–liquid interface. The...
